Gen. Hanby lived in Henry Co., VA, until about the year 1817, when he moved to Alabama, and located on a rich farm at Little Warrior, Blount Co.. He was elected to represent Blount Co. in the State constitutional convention of 1819, at Huntsville, and helped frame the first state constitution. Immediately afterwards, he was elected to the State senate. He was a Democrat.
